Partnerships and Business Development
- There is an increasing desire by industry, local business and government to
engage
Indigenous people in commercial and service delivery arrangements.
- The Larrakia
Nation is ideally placed to enter into partnership arrangements as the peak
Indigenous representative organisation for Indigenous issues on Larrakia land.
- Larrakia Nation also has a number of opportunities to develop existing activities
into
commercially viable enterprises.
- Larrakia Nation has been successful at securing participation in the Indigenous
Tourism Enterprise mentoring project, which provides specialist assistance in
the development of our enterprise based activities.
Key Goals
- Securing Larrakia Nation’s Position as the Indigenous Authority
on Cultural, Social, Land and Marine Issues in the Region
Larrakia Nation will promote and develop opportunities, which promote our unique
position as the traditional owners within the region by:
- Establishing self-sufficient management arrangements of Charles Darwin
National Park
- Establishing eco-tourism activities in the Darwin and Kenbi areas
- Developing land and marine management services
- Securing ownership and operation of a multi-purpose cultural facility
- Establishing a retail outlet for Indigenous Art and Craft
- Establishing a wholesale outlet for Indigenous Art and Craft
- Developing an Indigenous Public Art service
- Establishing an Aged Care facility
- Securing leases on urban living areas in the Larrakia estate
- Securing Native Title ownership
- Developing as a Prescribed Body Corporate for land matters
- Promoting Larrakia protocols and assisting visitors to our region
Provision of Quality Employment and Training Options for Indigenous People
Larrakia Nation will initiate and establish services and facilities to provide
quality employment and training options for Indigenous people in the region by:
- Establishing a training facility
- Positioning itself to be able to become a Registered Training Organisation
- Positioning itself to be able to become a full JOB futures member
- Pursuing any leverage it may have to secure employment and training
outcomes from partnership arrangements
- Positioning itself to be able to deliver employment placement services
- Identifying and securing accredited training for our staff
Provision of Quality Service Management and Delivery
Larrakia Nation will progress its current service delivery by:
- Securing ownership of its current location
- Establishing a multi-purpose facility
- Pursuing any leverage it may have from partnership arrangements to
secure support for service delivery arrangements
- Maintaining and improving the quality and quantity of service delivery
arrangements
- Ensuring service delivery arrangements are not cost-adverse to the
organisation
Our Strategies
Larrakia Nation will achieve our goals by:
- Developing capacity by, with and of Larrakia people through cultural, social,
education, training and employment initiatives
- Increased influence and capacity by enhancing relationships through cooperation
and understanding between Larrakia people, other Indigenous people and the broader
community
- Being known as a major auspicing organisation by development and delivery
of
projects and services beyond the expectation of stakeholders
- Developing independence and sustainability by starting and operating economically
viable businesses; and
- Ensuring organisational stability as a foundation for future growth and development
through a focus on best practice – structure and governance
